Online Dating

Back in February we held a contest on this blog where I paid $300 to the man whose profile text (without photos) would appeal to the most women, using a panel of 13 female judges. The contest was here and the final results are here.

I published the three winning profiles at that second link, but many of you have been asking me to publish more of the profiles that received high marks from our judges. Since I am but your humble servant, your wish is my command. Here then are the profiles that received 4th, 5th, and 6th place rankings.

There was a lot of controversy over the winning profiles last time, and I expect the same reaction from these ones. Regardless, these are the profiles our judges liked when their scores were averaged together.

What’s very interesting is all three of these profiles damn near tied for the position of 4th place. The 4th and 5th place profiles had at least one woman rank them as a perfect 10 on the 1 to 10 scale.

Here they are!

4th Place – “Justin”

This profile is only one of two profiles in the entire contest that was rated a perfect 10 by more than one woman. However, one woman rated it a 3, which knocked it out of the top three winning spots.

Here it is:

Young, spontaneous and sometimes narcissistic but don’t be shy. I live and breathe comedy.

I’m constantly laughing and sometimes at other peoples expense. I’m attracted to deep talks, self-confidence and all kinds of fun.

I’m Tall, dark and handsome. I have a passion for music and film. When away from all that fun, I spend too many hours of the day in the gym and am working towards an eye opening career.

About you: Be a challenge. Someone that excites me, stuns me. A woman with ambitions is nothing short of appealing. Someone who knows when to be submissive and when to be dominant always grab my attention.

Remember: A woman who thinks sexy, is sexy.

5th Place – “Billie”

This one came within a two-point average score of the above 4th place winner. It has a strong romantic vibe. Here it is:

They say that romance is dead. I say the problem is we haven’t had the chance to meet…yet. In the world we live in today, we are always on the move always in a rush, never able to stop and just enjoy the moment and in that rush we might have missed a critical moment. The moment where we meet.

The biggest regrets in my life are not about not climbing the tallest mountains or traveling enough or anything like that. The biggest regrets I have is when I let wonderful moments and sweet strangers slip through my grasp and that’s not the life I can to live anymore. Even if you don’t know it, you’ll regret passing up these moments too.

Now for a little about why you should meet a man like me. As far as I can see it life is already complicated enough, I see myself as a complex person who just likes to enjoy the simpler things in life.
I have down to earth personality, I’m a professional for when I work and a part of me is a kid who just refused to grow up. So be prepared, I can be quite immature at times and laugh at the silliest things.

Even though I enjoy the simpler things in life, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t enjoy sitting in a cafe in Paris sipping some coffee at some small cafe. It just means that I would also find moments like snuggling in bed playing footsies while glancing at one another and giggling when we should be watching the movie in front of us. That’s just simply the kind of man I am.

Life is slipping away from us one second at time, let’s not let the chance for us to meet slip too. If you are interested, send me a message and let’s finally get to know one another.

6th Place – “Jack”

Two women gave this profile a low score (3 and a 4), but most of the others gave it an 8 or higher. This surprised me because he mentions his giant pet snake! Here it is:

Most people would say I swim against the current. It’s definitely more work but I think its more fun too.

Adventures of all shapes and sizes jerk at the strings of heart. The world is so full of things I’ve never seen or done that I almost feel guilty doing the same thing twice.

We’ll be a perfect fit if you are a woman who:
Listens to her dreams
Values fitness of the body as well as of the mind
Finds time to laugh at the everyday absurdities of life
Isn’t afraid to try something new

I also have a large pet snake, so if that kind of thing scares you then we wouldn’t be a good fit.

Interested? Don’t be afraid to shoot me a message. I’ll take it from there.

So there you go! Hopefully that gives you a better idea of the types of profiles that scored high in the contest.

Will we do this contest again? YES. My tentative plan is to have the next online profile contest broken out into three separate age categories. Maybe something like this:

Category 1: Women age 18 – 22

Category 2: Women age 23 – 32

Category 3: Women age 33 – 45

Each category would have its own panel of female judges within that age range, and contestants would be allowed to submit one profile per age category. I think that would render more accurate results with the age factor taken into account. Might be interesting.

I’m not 100% set on that yet but those are my thoughts at the moment. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

11 Comments on “More Winning Profiles From The Online Dating Profile Contest

  1. I actually liked Jack’s the best out of those three. I’m left wondering what exactly he means by “giant pet snake”…lmao. Is it a REAL snake or a euphemism? Hmmmm…. 😉

  2. As for the other two, Billie goes into to much detail, too complex. All of that writing and I just start to skim and think blah, blah, blah. He seems to be overqualifying himself.

Justin’s was okay until he put those high expectations on the woman at the end. I tend to avoid men who are putting too much pressure on ME to be something, thinking I might not be what he’s looking for.

  3. One possible imperfection of this judging method is that sometimes you want your profile to screen out certain women, and this method will penalize that kind of screening. So profiles that cast a wide net will outdo profiles that might offer much better lay-to-response ratios. (Oh well, nothing’s perfect.)

BTW, it’s funny that Billie name-checks Paris without saying whether he’s ever actually been there.

  4. If this is done again, set it up so guys will each have to also submit 8 of their best photos, that they’ll have to reduce to being a few kilobytes each, that can easily be done in Photoshop and other programs. Judging profiles that also come with photos, is more sensible than just text, since it’s pics and physical attractiveness first, that both genders go for, not what someone says about themselves.

  5. Photos is 80% of the equation, yes. However having guys include photos would radically change the nature of the entire contest. I’m not saying I’ll never do that, but for the very next contest that’s unlikely.

The point of the contest is to learn good text-writing technique. Having hot guys with terrible profile texts getting high marks in the contest would skew the results away from that goal.

Moreover, there are already plenty of places online to get your photos judged by women (Hot or Not, My Best Face, etc). There is no place online (I know of) where you can get your text judged without influence of the photo.

  6. I like Billie’s mindset!

I’m curious what Jack would score if it wasn’t for the snake comment. It may simply mean that the women who are scared of snakes (and/or big cocks……..) were turned off and rated him low.

  7. Wow, I can’t believe I got sixth place! Thanks for posting all these results BD, and thanks for the complements lovergirl.

For the record, I did intend on the snake comment filtering out unadventurous and nonsexual girls., although now I realize that may not have been the best strategy for this contest.

  8. 5th Place – “Billie” looks the best to me.

I think the problem is 10 judges is just too small of a sample size for accurate results.

You would have to actually run them at dating sites and then analyze the results.

You are testing whether the judges like the text
    not the BD gold standard
would they meet and lay in 2 dates/4 hours
a much harder test to set up and run I know…

but you are getting Disney results here…

My BS detector is waking the neighbors

sorry BD thanks for all the work you do for us.
