Today I’m going to walk through my entire skin regimen. I get a lot of questions about this from you guys over the age of 35 in terms of anti-aging, so this is a rundown of everything I do.

Skin Regimen

This is something you should be doing as soon as you hit age 35. You could certainly start earlier than that if you wanted; it would probably be a good idea. I started this skin regimen somewhere in my mid-30s and I’ve been sticking with it for about 17 years. My skin is pretty good overall, as you can tell. I’ll summarize everything I do, but if you want more detail on some of these points, you can check out The Ultimate Younger Woman Manual in the Caleb Jones store.

“Skin regimen” means you have a morning regimen and an evening regimen. I have been very consistent with my morning regimen for 15+ years, but my night regimen is not nearly as consistent; that’s something I need to improve upon. Ideally, you’d stick to both consistently.

How It Works

In terms of Alpha 2.0, this is something you’ll have to do seven days a week for the rest of your life. Because the Alpha Male 2.0 is non-monogamous, we do not have the option of just getting a wife or girlfriend and letting ourselves go. We can’t let our skin, weight, and looks go to hell if we expect to be happy long term. As an Alpha Male 2.0, you’re going to have to bring in new women on a semi-regular basis for the rest of your life, which means you have to age as gracefully as you possibly can—and as I’ve said in the past, to look the least bad that you possibly can as you get older. One of the key aspects of this is a very good, consistent skin regimen.

There are many things that go into proper skin care that have nothing to do with what you put on it. Staying hydrated is one of the most important. People who don’t drink enough water will age faster than those who do, for instance. We could go through a lot of things that deal with lifestyle, but that’s a topic for another time.

The order in which I lay these things out is important. You must do them in this order. Remember that these instructions apply to your face, neck, and the backs of your hands.

Morning Routine — Step 1

In the shower, you should wash your face with a standard facial wash; it can also be an astringent. This is a soap that is made specifically for your face. You’d be amazed how much gunk accumulates on your face every day, even if you’re indoors all the time. If you never wash it off, you will start to look older faster.

When you’re touching your own face, be gentle on your skin. Pretend you’re touching a baby. Don’t be too rough with it.

Step 2

The next thing is you’ll do is exfoliate, which is something you only do about twice a week, not every day. You can buy men’s or women’s exfoliant; it won’t matter as long as it’s not scented. Some exfoliants made for women are scented with peach or flowers or some shit, and you don’t want that.

Exfoliants scour your skin and remove the dead skin cells that accumulate every few days. You don’t want those on your face in the long term. Exfoliate using circular motions on your face. Most exfoliants will feel rough on your skin, and that’s good. It means it’s working. With most exfoliants, leave it on your skin for about a minute and rinse it off.

Again, don’t go crazy with it. Be gentle and firm. And don’t put exfoliant around your eyes; leave that part alone.

Step 3

Next, you’ll shave. You’ll get a better shave if you wait until after you exfoliate. Like I said, stick to the order.

Step 4

Now it’s time to moisturize. Don’t cheap out on this part. You don’t have to use anything particularly expensive when it comes to face wash, but when it comes to moisturizer, be sure and use something a little more high-end.

Make sure that after you moisturize, you put on an SPF, which will protect you from the sun. It’s easier if your facial moisturizer already contains an SPF of at least 25. If it comes with an SPF of less than 25, don’t use it. If it has no SPF at all, it’s still okay to use, but you’ll have to remember to put sunblock on top of it to protect your skin.

Again, the skin around your eyes is different from the rest of the skin on your face. I use a special eye cream that I put around my eyes. This is optional. It’s a moisturizer specifically made for that area. Once that’s applied, I use my regular moisturizer all over my face, eyes included. (Yes, the eyes get two moisturizers.)

The number one reason people begin to look older is because of sun damage. You need to take steps to prevent as many sun-induced wrinkles as possible. The SPF is an element you want to include regardless of whether you plan to be outside in the sun or not. If you’re the kind of guy who spends a ton of time outside for any reason, you may find yourself needing to reapply sunblock at least once during the day. Environmental elements like bodies of water or snow-covered landscapes can reflect UV rays back onto you and expose you to UV rays even if you’re not in direct sunlight. It happens. You have to be prepared for UV exposure no matter what.

Evening Routine

The night routine will be very similar to your morning routine, but less complicated. The first step is your face wash. You can use a makeup remover pad with some astringent or face wash, or you could even take another shower if you wanted to. I don’t do that, but it’s an option.

Then you apply moisturizer without SPF. Yes, this means you have two facial moisturizers, one with SPF that you use in the morning and one without that you use in the evening. Obviously, there’s no concern about sun exposure at night.

An optional step for men over 40 is to use Retinol or Retin-A cream on your face in the evenings. Retinol/Retin-A is relatively expensive, but it fixes or alleviates the wrinkles you already have, whereas a general moisturizer helps prevent you from getting wrinkles in the first place. Retinol is something you’ll apply to your face first. Wait until it’s totally dry, and then apply your regular evening moisturizer.

Some people even use a Vitamin C serum on their faces, along with a variety of other stuff, but there’s no need to go crazy with all this. What I’ve talked about here is all you really need. I would stick with the basics for the time being. I might add a few more things to my skin regimen as I get into my 50s and 60s, but for the time being, this works well.

If you’re over the age of 35 and you’re not already doing the things I’ve talked about here, you’re going to start looking like shit in short order—if you’re not already. As I’ve said before, having a great life up until your 40s and then having a shit life from your 50s onward is not success. Alpha Male 2.0 is about long-term happiness, which means happy now and happy forever. For the Alpha Male 2.0, part of that is looking as young as you can for as long as you can.
